Stay tuned for additional information on both of these product integrations for Moodle. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until it is submitted for grading. Students are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications during an online assessment. If you’re not familiar with this product, Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within course management systems. This too will require a server extension (module) to be installed to the server, but after doing so, it will enable Respondus LockDown Browser to integrate with Moodle courses. This summer, we also plan to release our Respondus LockDown Browser integration for Moodle.

There will still be a Moodle extension (module) to be installed to the server, but this will enable the next update of Respondus to publish and retrieve assessments seamlessly with Moodle courses. Currently, Moodle users must create assessments using the QTI personality in Respondus, export the XML file, and upload the assessment to a Moodle course using a browser (and this assumes that a QTI extension has been installed to the Moodle server). Respondus 3.5 users will be happy to hear that the next version of Respondus will contain a Moodle personality. But these two integrations for Moodle are so close you can almost taste them. We don’t typically preannounce product integrations. Now if the textbook companies would take a closer look at what Moodle can do and how it is expanding, they might realize that it would be to their future advantage to support Moodle in their "Resource Packages". I know that not everybody uses Respondus but it has saved me a lot of time even with the extra steps. I hope that this will solve having to use the work arounds. I use Respondus to move tests from test banks and/or for other Learning Management Systems into Moodle but there are always extra steps that have to be taken. Now they are going to make it a little less work for those of that use Moodle. This is a step in the right direction for Respondus they have been supporting BlackBoard, WebCT, Desire2Learn and eCollege.
